Mount Rainer National Park is the crown jewel of Washington yet it has a fraction of the crowds that other major national parks do in the summer. The peak of Mount Rainer stands an impressive 14,410 feet above sea level, making it visible from over a hundred miles away on a clear day. The mountain makes for an impressive backdrop amongst a beautiful landscape that is often blanketed with wildflowers in the months of July and August.

What to Expect
During this five-day photography workshop you’ll have the opportunity to photograph Mount Rainer from some of the park’s most iconic locations as well as the lesser known areas of the park. Mount Rainer is a photographer’s dream. There are lush flower filled meadows, beautiful waterfalls, iconic vistas, and subtle scenes to captivate your eye. This workshop is open to photographers of all skill levels from beginner to advanced.
During the workshop we will be waking up early to catch first light and make the most of the morning. We’ll take mid-day breaks when the light is bad to catch up on rest, eat and download photos to the computer. In the evening we will head back out into the field for the golden hour and sunset light.
Lodging
Participants can choose to stay at the Paradise Lodge or book a campground or other accommodation on their own for a discounted rate. Note that Mount Rainer's Paradise Inn is in the heart of the best wildflower area in the park and is where the workshop will be based out of.

Mount Rainer offers a wide variety of Landscape photography opportunities. A wide, mid and telephoto lens is recommended for this trip.
Weather & Hiking
The weather in Mount Rainer can vary drastically. Be prepared for hot sunny days as well as cold rain and even winter-like conditions.
This workshop has a variety of shooting scenarios that range from very easy to short but somewhat strenuous. Most shoots will be quite accessible but one of the potential evening shoots will be difficult. We will only do the hard hike if there are promising wildflowers in the area though. Participants will be briefed on hiking conditions before heading out on any given shoot and are welcome to sit out any portion of the trip that they do not feel comfortable with. There are plenty of opportunities to photograph near the Paradise Inn should you choose to sit out a shoot with the group. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about hiking.
