Twisted sandstone folds on top of itself in what might be the strangest landscape in the United States. Vermillion Cliffs is located in northern Arizona in an area known as the Arizona Strip. The landscape is rugged, difficult to access and incredibly fragile for something that was created millions of years ago.

The landscape here looks more like something out of a Salvador Dali painting than it does nature. Multicolored sandstone swirls like paint through rock fins and large clusters that resemble the tops of cauliflower. © Mike Wardynski Photography
