The Grand Canyon is one of the most impressive sights in the Southwest. There is no way to understand the sheer size and scale of such a place without witnessing it with your own eyes. This photograph offers just a small taste of how grand the Grand Canyon really is.
Located in northern Arizona, Grand Canyon National Park is an impressive 1,904 square miles, making it larger than the state of Rhode Island. The canyon is 6,093 feet deep and can create its own weather systems. due to elevation change there can be a 25 degree temperature difference between the canyon floor and rim.
While we know that the Grand Canyon is extremely old, no one knows how old it is for sure. Scientist initially thought it was about six million years old, but a 2012 study found that the canyon could have started forming as long as 70 million years ago. Nature never ceases to amaze. © Mike Wardynski Photography
